Why we teach your child French:

Learning another language raises awareness of the multi-lingual and multi-cultural world and introduces an international dimension to pupils’ learning, giving them an insight into their own culture and those of others.

What our curriculum looks like in Key Stage 2:

Our French curriculum is ambitious throughout Key Stage 2.Using the content from the National Curriculum and Kapow Primary French we have carefully sequenced our French curriculum so children explore French in a progressive way with a focus on speaking French.

Children in Years 3-6 have two French lessons a week so that they can practice speaking French frequently. Children also read and write French phrases and sentences developing their understanding of French grammar and pronunciation.

How you can help your child at home:

  • Learning rhymes and songs in French.

  • Watching age-appropriate French cartoons and short videos.

  • Learning to say words and phrases and French with your child using websites to help with pronunciation.
