PSHE Curriculum Intent- Why we teach what we teach?

Through our curriculum, our school environment, our school ethos and the strength of our relationships, we strive to promote pupils’ self-esteem and emotional and physical well-being and help them to form and maintain worthwhile and satisfying relationships, based on respect for themselves and for others, at home, at school, at work and in the community.

In order to flourish, thrive and develop into happy adults who contribute effectively to society, pupils at All Saints Primary School and Nursery develop their personalities and behaviour through the specific focus on important values that enable them to reflect, learn, behave with integrity and work consistently well with others.

Relationships, Sex and Health Education

Sex, Relationships and Health Education (RSHE) is embedded within our PSHE scheme of work SCARF. During the Spring term, pupils will learn all about growing and changing and many aspects of relationships, sex and health (RSHE) will be covered within this theme. They will learn important skills such as:

Building positive and healthy relationships

Taking care of our physical health and mental wellbeing,

Keeping safe (including online safety)

How our bodies grow and change

Please read through our useful guide for parents and carers. If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to your child’s class teacher.

Protective Behaviours

We follow the Warwickshire schools’ Taking Care: Protective Behaviours Programme, which is part of our PSHE curriculum.

Protective Behaviours is a practical down to earth approach to personal safety. The aim of the programme is to teach the children about how to feel safe, how to talk about their feelings and how to recognise safe and unsafe feelings. This encourages an adventurous approach to life that satisfies the desire for fun and excitement without violence or fear. Protective Behaviours help children to recognise and trust their intuitive feelings (Early Warning Signs) and to develop a range of strategies for self-protection.

The programme focuses on two key themes:

  • We all have the right to feel safe all of the time; and

  • We can talk with someone about anything, even if it feels awful or small.

The sessions are specifically tailored to meet the needs of all year groups, from Foundation Stage to Year 6.  If you have any questions or queries, please speak to your child's class teacher who will be happy to tell you more about the programme.
